Ryszard Szozda

Ryszard Szozda, born in 1976 in Cracow, Poland. Graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in
Cracow, Poland, in 2001 at the Faculty of Graphic Arts. Lives and works in Warsaw, Poland.
Winner of the First Prize of 13th Edition Arte Laguna Prize in Venice, Italy. His works were
presented at over 30 individual and group exhibitions in Poland, Italy, Czech Republic, Norway
and Japan at numerous prestigious galleries such as Venice Arsenalle, Silesian Museum in
Katowice or The Palace of Art in Cracow.

In his works Ryszard Szozda marries iconic imagery with text to form provocative works that tap
into our collective past and present. Sourced from historical photos, films, lyrics, and books, his
paintings introduce symbolic and narrative elements to tell a story that convey a deeper
meaning through imagery to create a surreal and dreamlike atmosphere of unavoidable
contemplation for the audience. Textual paintings necessitate the viewer to absorb the content
of what is being said, and by consequence fully imagine in vivid detail the ideas being
suggested. The work is therefore based within the canvas, but also within the mind of the
viewer.
